Celebrating 225 years!
In 1795, The town of Rotterdam built a market at 35 North Ferry Street so that rural farmers could sell their produce in the burgeoning community of schenectady. Just 12 years after the American Revolution, the opening of businesses was a sign of confidence in the new nation. Now, 225 years later, the renovation of 35 north ferry street, which has continuously served our community as a market, is another vote of confidence in the future of This city.
From the moment I purchased Arthur’s Market in December 2018, I have received an outpouring of love, memories, enthusiasm, and support from neighbors, family, and friends. You have shared stories of visiting Arthur’s after school as children, history lessons about past proprietors and their offerings, and even stories about the friendly ghost dog who lives on Arthur’s front stoop.
Moreover, many of you have contributed tangible support, which has allowed me to fully renovate 35 North Ferry Street and rejuvenate the market. The Schenectady Heritage Foundation generously funded new storefront windows and doors. My family and friends have given countless weekends (and weekdays!) to sanding, painting, and building with only the promise of free coffee as their reward. My team has worked tirelessly and faithfully through the restoration and business start-up processes.
Thank you! Thank you all so much!
Now, it’s my turn to give… We are opening our doors on March 4th, and with that I hope to offer delicious, fresh food, a space where friends and neighbors can meet, and a vision that builds on the legacy of this historic market.
Cheers,
Haley
We live to eat. We love to drink coffee. And we all feel a sense of purpose in seeing others find joy in the food and drinks we make.
